Spring Routines and Activities for Preschoolers: A Season of Growth and Fun

Spring is a time of renewal, growth, and discovery, making it the perfect season to introduce new routines and activities that engage young learners. At PLG Kids Academy in Fort Lauderdale, we embrace the energy and curiosity that spring brings, helping children explore the world around them through hands-on experiences, outdoor play, and creative learning.

While spring is filled with exciting seasonal events like Dr. Seuss’ Birthday, Read Across America, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter, it’s also important to maintain healthy habits and avoid excessive sugary treats. Let’s take advantage of the season by focusing on reading, movement, and balanced nutrition, ensuring a healthy and happy spring for all!

Spring Routines: Encouraging Healthy Habits

With the changing seasons, it’s a great time to refresh our daily routines and encourage good habits that support physical, social, and emotional well-being.

✔️ Read-Aloud & Literacy Focus – March is an exciting time to celebrate books and foster a love for reading! As part of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss' Birthday, we will have a read-a-thon, guest readers, and special reading activities to inspire our young learners. Reading aloud enhances language skills, creativity, and comprehension while creating wonderful shared experiences.

✔️ Outdoor Play & Exploration – Warmer weather invites more opportunities for outdoor learning. Nature walks, gardening, and bug hunts help children develop an appreciation for the environment while improving gross motor skills.

✔️ Mindful Eating & Healthy Choices – Spring celebrations often come with plenty of sweets, but we encourage balanced nutrition by incorporating fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into snacks and meals. We also practice mindful eating, teaching children to enjoy treats in moderation while recognizing the importance of nourishing foods.

✔️ Spring Cleaning & Organization – This season is perfect for teaching responsibility through simple classroom cleanup routines, like tidying up play areas, organizing books, and practicing independence in self-care.

✔️ New Learning Themes – Spring is a season of growth, making it the ideal time to introduce science experiments, plant life cycles, weather changes, and animal habitats into our curriculum.

Spring Activities: Learning Through Play

Our spring-themed activities are designed to engage young minds and bodies while embracing the beauty of the season.

📚 Read Across America & Dr. Seuss' Birthday – March is all about books! We'll have a read-a-thon, dress-up days, and special guest readers to celebrate literacy and encourage a lifelong love of reading.

🌱 Planting & Gardening – Children can plant flowers, herbs, or vegetables and learn about the life cycle of plants, responsibility, and patience.

🎨 Spring Arts & Crafts – Activities like painting flowers, creating butterfly masks, and making bird feeders allow children to express creativity while developing fine motor skills.

🎵 Movement & Music – Dancing to spring-themed songs, playing with ribbons and scarves in the breeze, or acting out animal movements encourages physical activity and coordination.

🚀 STEM Activities – Simple science experiments like watching seeds sprout, learning about the water cycle, or observing insects provide engaging hands-on learning experiences.

Avoiding Sugar Overload: Healthy Spring Celebrations

While St. Patrick’s Day and Easter are fun-filled events, they often come with candy overload. At PLG Kids Academy, we promote healthy alternatives to balance the fun while ensuring children develop positive eating habits.

Fruit-Based Treats – Instead of chocolates and jellybeans, we incorporate colorful fruit platters, yogurt parfaits, and homemade smoothies for a natural energy boost.

Active Celebrations – We replace candy hunts with scavenger hunts, relay races, and spring-themed obstacle courses, keeping children active and engaged.

Creative Rewards – Instead of sweets, we encourage stickers, books, or art supplies as rewards, helping children appreciate non-food-based treats.

By making small but meaningful adjustments, we can celebrate spring in a fun, engaging, and healthy way!
