It Takes a Village: Giving Thanks for Our School Community
Updated: 13 hours ago
As Thanksgiving approaches, we enter a wonderful season of gratitude, reflection, and togetherness. It's the perfect time to appreciate the people who make a difference in our lives, especially those who help us raise healthy, happy children who are curious, confident, and eager to learn.
An old saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” For today's busy families, that village may be closer than we think. Sometimes, it begins right at your child's preschool.
At PLG Kids Academy, we believe that growing together makes us stronger. Our school is a safe, welcoming place where children can learn, explore, develop friendships, and create beautiful memories while families build meaningful connections.

And for children, preschool is often where their first friendships begin. Those little friends who share toys, build towers, and play together today may become lifelong companions.
Playdates, birthday parties, family outings, and weekend adventures can turn school friendships into lasting relationships and wonderful childhood memories.
Teaching Children to Be Part of a Community
Being part of a community also means learning how to contribute to it.
Courtesy, kindness, respect, and good manners are essential social skills that begin developing in early childhood. And children learn these behaviors primarily by watching the adults around them.
When we greet teachers with a smile, say “please” and “thank you,” hold the door for another family, respect school routines, or offer help to someone who needs it, we are teaching our children valuable lessons about living together.
Our everyday actions become their first examples of how to interact with others.
Even simple routines, such as waiting patiently, following classroom rules, taking turns, and saying goodbye, help children understand that they belong to a community where everyone matters.
Courtesy Is Gratitude in Action
Being grateful also means recognizing that we are part of something bigger than ourselves. A caring school community grows stronger when families practice courtesy, respect one another, and contribute to a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.
Perhaps one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate Thanksgiving is to remember that kindness and gratitude are not reserved for special occasions. They are values we can practice, teach, and share every single day.
Simple Ways to Strengthen Your School Community
Building a supportive school community doesn't require a lot of time or effort. Small gestures can make a big difference.
Get to know other parents. Start a conversation during drop-off, pick-up, or school celebrations.
Encourage friendships. Arrange playdates, park visits, or simple weekend activities with classmates.
Participate in school events. Join celebrations, contribute when possible, and show your child that their school community matters.
Practice kindness and courtesy. Greet others, respect school policies, and model patience and consideration.
Stay connected with teachers. Share information, ask questions, and work together to support your child's development.
Offer support. A friendly word, helpful suggestion, or small act of kindness can mean a lot to another parent.
